Allen High School has 80 seniors on this year's list of National Merit Commended Students, Allen ISD announced Monday.

The seniors earned the honor in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program through their results on the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, or PSAT/NMSQT, according to the district's announcement.

How students qualify

Nationwide, about 34,000 students are being named Commended Students, the district said. They come from the approximately 50,000 top scorers among the students who entered the 2027 program by taking the qualifying test.

The district said the commended group was selected using a national Selection Index score of 208.

Commended Students do not move on in the competition for National Merit Scholarships. Instead, each receives a Letter of Commendation from the school and from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, the organization that conducts the program, according to the announcement.

The Allen list

The district's post names all 80 seniors and offers the campus's congratulations to the group. Allen ISD has shared other academic and fine arts results in recent weeks, including 56 orchestra students who earned seats in the TMEA All-Region orchestras earlier this month.

Families can find the full announcement and list on the Allen ISD news page.
