Allen City Council to Update Building Codes and Land Development Regulations

Code Adoption Overview

The Allen City Council is scheduled to conduct a public hearing during its regular meeting on July 28, 2026.

The agenda item proposes adopting an ordinance to amend Article III of the Allen Land Development Code.

The update will adopt the 2024 editions of the International Building Code, International Existing Building Code, International Fire Code, International Residential Code, International Mechanical Code, International Plumbing Code, International Fuel Gas Code, National Electrical Code, International Swimming Pool And Spa Code, and International Energy Conservation Code.

Specific Code Revisions

The ordinance includes targeted amendments to the Allen Land Development Code alongside the new model codes.

Section 4.08.19 regarding the Downtown District will be corrected to fix scrivener errors from a prior ordinance.

Regulations for manufactured home uses under Section 4.20.2 will be updated alongside revised definitions in Appendix A.

Process and Next Steps

The public hearing will allow residents and stakeholders to review the proposed regulatory changes.

Following the hearing, the council will vote on the ordinance to finalize the updates to local building and land development standards.
