Furniture, fitness gear and network equipment for Allen's new police headquarters, a five-year replacement of the city's emergency dispatch consoles and new breathing gear for firefighters add up to more than $5.3 million in purchases on the City Council's Oct. 13 agenda.
Dispatch consoles
On the consent agenda, the council will consider a $1,626,542 purchase contract with Motorola Solutions for eight AXS platform dispatch consoles, related infrastructure and the relocation of critical Nokia microwave paths. The cost would be spread over five years: $325,000 in the first year and $325,385 in each of the next four.
According to the police department's agenda memo, the radio equipment the city's communications center uses to dispatch police and fire crews is more than 15 years old and nearing the end of its life, and Motorola will soon stop providing technical support and replacement parts for it. The memo says the city would own the equipment at the end of the five years and expects to use it for another 10 to 15 years. The first-year payment comes from the police department's operating budget, and staff wrote that the purchase order must be approved before Nov. 11 to avoid a $270,000 price increase. The purchase goes through a Texas Department of Information Resources cooperative contract.
New police headquarters
Three items on the regular agenda would equip the new Allen Police Department Headquarters, which the council gave a total project budget of $97.1 million in February 2025:
- Contracts with Wilson Bauhaus for office furniture, fixtures and equipment, listed at $1,565,474, and with Russ Bassett for $308,247 in consoles and furniture for the dispatch center planned for the building's third floor.
- A contract with Presidio Holdings, Inc., capped at $500,000, for network switches and wireless access points, which the city's IT department would install once the building is ready.
- A $252,973 contract with Sorinex Exercise Equipment, Inc., for the building's gym. The city sought four proposals: Fit Supply offered $188,983 for alternate equipment, Venus Exercise Equipment bid $301,226 and Marathon Fitness was ruled non-responsive. Staff judged Sorinex the best value.
