Rantanen's four points power Stars past Sabres 4-0

Rantanen Has a Hand in Every Goal

The Dallas Stars beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-0 on Thursday, Oct. 8, at KeyBank Center, and Mikko Rantanen figured in all four goals. The Dallas forward scored once and assisted on the other three for a four-point night.

Jake Oettinger made 26 saves for his second straight shutout, and the Stars won for the second game in a row after dropping their first two.

Early Lead Sets Tone

Jason Robertson opened the scoring at 9:03 of the first period with a snap shot, his second goal of the season. Rantanen and Wyatt Johnston drew the assists, and Dallas carried the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Second Period Surge

Sam Steel doubled the lead at 9:36 of the second period on a snap shot, his first goal of the season, set up by Thomas Harley and Rantanen.

Rantanen then scored his second goal of the season on a backhand at 13:57, with Nils Lundkvist and Johnston assisting, to make it 3-0. Roope Hintz finished the scoring on a power-play snap shot at 15:34 for his first goal of the season, with Johnston and Rantanen assisting. Johnston finished with three assists.

Buffalo goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 14 of 18 shots.

Standings

Both teams are 2-2-0 with four points. Buffalo had won the first two games of a five-game homestand before the loss, which drew 19,070 fans. The Stars play at Pittsburgh on Saturday.
