The Houston Astros secured a 6-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park on Tuesday, driven by a late-inning offensive explosion that overturned a tied score.
Houston took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Jose Altuve hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Yordan Alvarez to cross the plate. The Giants responded in the fourth inning, with Mitch Garver hitting a sacrifice fly to left to tie the game at 1-1 after Ryan Eldridge scored.
Home Runs Define Middle Innings
The contest shifted momentum in the fifth inning when Keon Brown homered to right field (382 feet), giving Houston a 2-1 advantage. San Francisco answered immediately in the seventh inning. J.D.
Davis homered to left (402 feet) to tie the game at 2-2. Shortly after, Garver hit his second home run of the night, sending a ball to right center (407 feet) to put the Giants ahead 3-2.
The Giants extended their lead in the ninth inning when Davis singled to right field, allowing Michael Conforto to score as Davis stretched for second base. The game remained tied at 3-3 heading into the tenth inning.
Extra Inning Action
Houston broke the deadlock in the top of the tenth. Jeremy Pena singled to left field, allowing Davis to score and moving Alex Bregman to second. Isaac Paredes then doubled to left field, driving in Pena and Bregman to give the Astros a 6-3 lead.
Pitching Performances
Hayden Wesneski started for Houston, pitching seven innings while allowing five hits and three earned runs with four strikeouts. Steven Okert worked one scoreless inning with one strikeout. Josh Hader earned the win by pitching two perfect innings with two strikeouts, improving his record to 4-1.
For San Francisco, Blade Tidwell pitched 5.2 innings, surrendering one earned run on four hits while recording six strikeouts. JT Brubaker allowed one earned run in 0.2 innings before being relieved. Sam Hentges pitched a scoreless inning with one strikeout.
Keaton Winn recorded the save with a hitless half-inning. Dylan Smith took the loss after allowing an earned run in one inning. Jason Foley surrendered two earned runs on two hits and two walks in his final out of the game.
The loss drops San Francisco to 49-70, while Houston improves to 61-59. Attendance was recorded at 28,070.
