Houston’s season ended September 30 when the Chicago White Sox won American League Wild Card Game 2, 7–3, at Daikin Park. Chicago took the best-of-three series 2–0.

The Astros spent most of the game trying to erase an early deficit. Chicago scored four times in the first inning, with RBI singles from Kyle Teel, Andrew Benintendi and Tristan Peters, plus a run on a throwing error. Starter Hunter Brown recorded only two outs.

Houston answered with solo home runs by Jeremy Peña in the first, Cam Smith in the second and Jose Altuve in the fourth. Those swings brought the Astros within 4–3.

Chase Meidroth added a three-run homer in the sixth, restoring a four-run Chicago advantage. MLB’s highlight records the drive at 390 feet. The homer extended an existing lead rather than putting the White Sox ahead.

Chicago starter Sean Burke struck out eight over four innings. Anthony Kay escaped a bases-loaded situation in the fifth, keeping Houston from tying the game, according to Field Level Media’s game report.
