The Indianapolis Colts secured a narrow 19-17 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday, thanks to a clutch kicking performance by Spencer Shrader. The game remained tightly contested until the final moments, with the Colts ultimately prevailing in front of a crowd of 63,400 at Lucas Oil Stadium. The win improved Indianapolis's record to 1-2, while the Texans fell to 0-3 on the season.
First Half Scoring
The Colts established an early advantage in the first quarter when Shrader connected on a 39-yard field goal, putting Indianapolis ahead 3-0. The second quarter saw both offenses find the end zone. Daniel Jones orchestrated a scoring drive for the Colts, finding Keenan Allen on a 6-yard pass to extend the lead to 10-0 after Shrader’s extra point.
However, the Texans responded quickly, with C.J. Stroud throwing a 1-yard touchdown pass to Foster Moreau to cut the deficit to 10-7. Before the half ended, Shrader added another field goal from 58 yards out, giving Indianapolis a 13-7 halftime advantage.
Fourth Quarter Back and Forth
The third quarter remained scoreless, setting the stage for a dramatic fourth period. The Texans began to chip away at the lead as Ka'imi Fairbairn kicked a 24-yard field goal, making the score 16-13 in favor of Indianapolis. Houston then took the lead when Woody Marks rushed for a 1-yard touchdown, followed by Fairbairn’s kick, shifting the momentum to make it 17-16 Texans.
