A tragic traffic incident on Custer Road in McKinney claimed the lives of 77-year-old Sandi and William Lazarus, who were recognized figures in the Allen ISD community. The couple's vehicle was struck by another car as they were entering their neighborhood.

The occupants of the other vehicle, an orange BMW, were reported to have sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and were taken to a hospital for treatment.

William Lazarus worked as the attendance clerk at Ereckson Middle School, while Sandi had recently retired from her position as an instructional aide at Lindsey Elementary. Kim McLaughlin, the acting superintendent of Allen ISD, conveyed her condolences, noting the profound impact of this tragedy on the school community.

Neighbors described the crash as severe enough to rattle nearby homes. Caleb White, a local resident, recognized the Lazarus vehicle and expressed hopes for their safety, recalling fond memories of his children playing in their yard. He highlighted ongoing concerns about speeding on Custer Road, particularly at the intersection where the accident occurred.

In the aftermath of the crash, some residents are calling for a stoplight at the intersection to improve safety. The McKinney police are currently investigating the incident, and no charges have been filed as they encourage anyone with information to contact their Crime Tip Line.

McKinney is about 7 miles northeast of Allen.
