Dallas is about 23 miles south of Allen. Flights at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field were disrupted Monday as the Federal Aviation Administration worked to recover from failures at an air traffic control facility in Philadelphia. FlightAware recorded hundreds of cancellations at DFW, where departing flights were running about 49 minutes behind schedule and delays were growing.
The Philadelphia center also manages traffic involving Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark airports. The outage interrupted service in Philadelphia and the New York area, with impacts reported at airports around the country. The same facility was connected to major disruptions at Newark Liberty International Airport in spring 2025.
The FAA said its main data circuit failed Monday morning. An attempt to switch to the backup connection revealed that a fiber-optic cable had been cut. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said an Amtrak construction crew caused the damage.
FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said the agency was installing another circuit while repairs continued, and Verizon technicians were working on restoration. Bedford estimated the fiber repair could require about 13 hours, while the replacement circuit could restore the primary connection sooner. That connection had already been slated for replacement as part of a nationwide air-traffic-control modernization effort.
Service had begun returning at LaGuardia, Kennedy and Philadelphia by early afternoon, though significant delays were expected through the rest of the day. Some airlines were allowing passengers to change flights without paying fees, and the FAA urged travelers to check with their airline before heading to the airport.
