Allen police have charged Jorge Jairala, 48, of Dallas, with murder after a dispute during a child custody exchange resulted in a fatal shooting. The incident occurred in the parking lot of a shopping center near North Watters Road and State Highway 121. Officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 5:59 p.m. on Friday.
According to a statement from Allen Police Officer Sammy Rippamonti, the preliminary investigation indicates the confrontation took place during a custody exchange involving Jairala and the mother's boyfriend. The two men became involved in an altercation, and both sustained gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel transported the men to a hospital, where the mother's boyfriend later died from his injuries.
Jairala was taken into custody without incident, and police initially described his wound as non-life-threatening.
The children involved in the custody exchange were present during the incident but did not suffer physical injuries. Authorities have not disclosed the number or ages of the children, nor have they stated whether the children's mother was present at the scene. The identity of the deceased man has not been made public.
