The No. 4 Allen Eagles and No. 6 DeSoto Eagles are set to compete at Allen Eagles Stadium in a highly anticipated Texas high school football matchup. Both programs hold spots in the High School On SI national top 25, with Allen ranked 18th and DeSoto at 24th. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. CT.
Allen enters the game with a 1-0 record after defeating No. 5 Duncanville 26-7 in their season opener. DeSoto, the defending Class 6A DII champion, is currently 0-1 following a 38-14 loss to No. 3 St. Thomas Aquinas.
That previous contest was broadcast nationally on ESPN and drew attention when three of DeSoto's four captains declined to shake hands with the opposing team before the coin toss.
In response to the incident, Dr. M.T. Tyeskie, the athletic director for the DeSoto Independent School District, issued an apology. The program also posted an apology on its social media channels. DeSoto head coach Claude Mathis told The Dallas Morning News that his players had received racist comments prior to the game. High School On SI has not independently verified Mathis' account.
The matchup features several highly rated recruits. For DeSoto, notable players include four-star running back SaRod Baker and four-star defensive lineman K'Adrian Redmond, both committed to Texas Tech. Three-star cornerback Dhillon McGee is committed to Penn State.
