Lyft is bringing back a transportation discount for voters in North Texas on Nov. 3. Dallas is about 23 miles south of Allen. The offer covers qualifying Lyft rides, bike trips and scooter trips to polling places throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Using the code VOTE26 between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. will reduce the fare by 50%, up to a maximum discount of $10. Dallas County polling places are expected to be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., according to the county website.
The promotion comes through Lyft Up Voting Access, which Lyft describes as a nonpartisan company program. Lyft representative Sabiha Nur said the company has provided free or discounted transportation for presidential, midterm and some runoff elections. Nur said nearly 4 million people have used Lyft for polling trips, ballot delivery or voter registration and related events.
Lyft said it is working this election cycle with the League of Women Voters, National Coalition for Homeless Veterans and Students Learn Students Vote Coalition. The company said those partnerships are meant to assist older voters, people with disabilities, students, veterans and lower-income communities that may face transportation barriers.
