In a significant recognition for the Dallas-Fort Worth area, three players have been selected as starters for the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game, including standout rookie Olivia Miles from TCU. The announcement was made on Thursday, highlighting Miles as the only rookie among the ten starters chosen through a combination of fan, player, and media votes.
Miles, who now plays for the Minnesota Lynx, has been instrumental in leading her team to the best record in the league at 15-4, despite the absence of their star player, Napheesa Collier, due to injury. This season, Miles has averaged 18.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game.
Her impressive performance follows a successful stint at TCU, where she guided the Horned Frogs to the Elite Eight in her only season with the team.
Joining Miles as starters are Dallas Wings players Paige Bueckers and Jessica Shepard. Bueckers, who was named Rookie of the Year last season, continues to excel in her sophomore year, averaging 19.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.9 assists, helping the Wings to an 11-8 record, which has already surpassed their total wins from the previous season.
The voting process saw fans contribute 50% of the total votes, with media and players accounting for the other half. Miles ranked fifth among fans, first with the media, and third with players, while Bueckers was the top vote-getter among guards in all categories.
Other guards selected as starters include Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell. Notably, Wings rookie Azzi Fudd, the first overall pick in the draft, finished 10th among guards in the voting, achieving a high fan ranking but lower placements with media and players.
