Baylor head coach Dave Aranda is gearing up for the 2026 season with considerable pressure to improve from last year’s disappointing performance. The Bears finished 5-7 in 2025, losing five of their last six games, and Aranda's overall coaching record stands at 36-37.

As he embarks on his seventh season, Aranda will introduce new quarterback DJ Lagway, who transferred from Florida, and several new receivers. The team has also appointed Joe Klanderman as the new defensive coordinator, previously of Kansas State.

The Bears have struggled since their successful 2021 season, where they achieved a school-record 12 wins and a Big 12 championship, resulting in a 22-28 record since then.

Despite the loss of leading rusher Bryson Washington to Auburn, the running back group remains strong with Caden Knighten and Dawson Pendergrass expected to play significant roles. However, the team faces challenges in the receiving corps, having lost their top five receivers from last season. Six new receivers have joined the roster, including transfers Dre’lon Miller and Gavin Freeman.

Baylor's season opener against Auburn in Atlanta is set for September 5, with additional key matchups against TCU on October 17 and No. 12 Texas Tech on November 21.
