A football player at Texas Christian University was hospitalized for three days due to a brain bleed after an alleged incident involving a teammate. The altercation took place on August 13 in the locker room, where Jacob Fields, a former safety for TCU, reportedly struck wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma in the forehead and kicked him in the head.
Ezukanma sustained a brain bleed, a concussion, and a strained AC joint as a result of the incident.
Fields has been removed from the team and surrendered to law enforcement on Sunday. An arrest affidavit indicated that Ezukanma believed the attack was motivated by competition during practice, as Fields felt he was underperforming.
After the incident, Ezukanma received text messages from Fields expressing remorse, stating he made an emotional decision based on his feelings about recent practices and offered to pay for Ezukanma's hospital expenses.
Ezukanma's family has reported that he is on the mend and looks forward to returning to the field once he receives medical clearance. His sister, Emelie Ezukanma, highlighted the need for accountability regarding the situation. Meanwhile, TCU is managing the incident while focusing on the team's performance, as they recently faced a loss in their first game of the season.
