Baylor defensive lineman Devonte Tezino will not return this season, coach Dave Aranda confirmed after Saturday’s game against Prairie View A&M. The injury leaves Baylor with two starters sidelined for the year, with safety Jacob Redding also identified as having a season-ending injury.
Tezino was hurt during Baylor’s second play on offense, when a Prairie View A&M lineman delivered a cut block. He summoned medical staff and was eventually taken from the field on a cart. SicEm365 reported the injury and Aranda’s remarks.
The fifth-year senior from Killeen had two sacks to open the season and helped produce an interception by tipping a pass against Auburn. Aranda said Tezino had been performing at the highest level of his career before being hurt. Tezino played in all 12 games last fall, starting seven, despite dealing with injuries.
He recorded 24 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one pass breakup that season. Across 29 games at Baylor, he has 56 tackles. Baylor has depth on its defensive line, but has now lost two starters for the season.
