Baylor defensive tackle Devonte Tezino is out for the remainder of the season because of a leg injury sustained in the Bears’ victory over Prairie View A&M. Coach Dave Aranda had identified Tezino as one of Baylor’s top interior defenders following the season opener.
Tezino made an early impact with two sacks against Auburn. Aranda said Baylor would miss the effort Tezino invested in developing into that level of player. The injury will give the team’s other defensive linemen more responsibility.
Aranda pointed to Braylen Jackson as a possible beneficiary of additional opportunities. Jackson has helped against the run, and Aranda called him physical, saying his run defense gives Baylor confidence. The defensive line entered the season viewed as one of the Bears’ major strengths, but Tezino’s absence will challenge its depth for the rest of the schedule.
Baylor was already without senior safety and defensive leader Jacob Redding, who suffered a torn ACL before the season opener against Auburn.
