The Dallas Cowboys have released running backs Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah as part of their roster adjustments. The team has decided to retain Javonte Williams, Malik Davis, and Hunter Luepke at the running back position. Coach Brian Schottenheimer noted the difficulty of these decisions, acknowledging that both Blue and Mafah were drafted for their potential and were valued players.

In a strategic move to enhance their roster, the Cowboys claimed running back Emari Demercado off waivers from Kansas City, citing his versatility and special teams contributions as key factors. Schottenheimer also mentioned that offensive coordinator Klayton Adams' previous experience with Demercado influenced this acquisition.

While discussing the possibility of bringing Blue or Mafah back to the practice squad, Schottenheimer stated that there were no guarantees for either player. The Cowboys have signed 13 players to their practice squad, including running back Israel Abanikanda, and can have up to 16 players, with an additional exemption due to the International Player Pathway program for defensive tackle Dayo Odeleye.

Schottenheimer expressed confidence in the current running back group and the team's commitment to building a competitive roster.
