In a social media update, Butler pointed out his achievements with the Cowboys, claiming he never allowed a touchdown during his time with the team, whether in preseason or regular season, and did not give up any passes over 20 yards. He reflected on his return to football after a four-year break and expressed gratitude for the opportunities he received.
During the preseason, Butler demonstrated his defensive abilities with six tackles across three games. Over the course of three seasons, he participated in six games, accumulating 26 tackles, five pass deflections, and one sack. However, an ACL injury in 2024 sidelined him for the entire 2023 season, limiting his playtime in 2025.
Despite his strong performance, Butler faced tough competition at the cornerback position, which contributed to his release. The Cowboys have not dismissed the idea of adding him back to their practice squad, as he has proven to be a dependable depth player when healthy.
As the Cowboys continue to assess their roster, it remains unclear if another NFL team will sign Butler or if he might return to the Cowboys in another role. The organization is actively looking for ways to strengthen their lineup as they pursue a Super Bowl title in 2026.
