The Houston Texans are looking to bolster their defensive line as they face injury concerns with key players. Recently, the team evaluated defensive end Devean Deal, an undrafted free agent from TCU who previously had a stint with the Seattle Seahawks earlier this year.
During his college years, Deal recorded a total of 176 tackles and 13 sacks, playing two seasons at TCU and three at Tulane. The Texans have already signed linebacker Caleb Johnson but are still searching for ways to enhance their roster due to the absence of Jadeveon Clowney and Logan Hall, whose injury details have not been disclosed.
Deal was let go by the Seahawks to accommodate new recruits, including undrafted rookie receivers Rashad Rochelle and Trayvon Rudolph. The Texans are in a comparable situation, having recently added veteran receivers Sterling Shepard and Zay Jones, while linebacker K.C. Ossai has been placed on injured reserve.
As the Texans gear up for the upcoming season, they aim to resolve their injury issues and strengthen their defensive lineup ahead of their regular-season opener against the Buffalo Bills. The status of Deal remains uncertain, as he has not yet been signed by the team.
