Baylor University quarterback DJ Lagway is currently listed as day-to-day following an ankle injury, according to head coach Dave Aranda. The decision on whether Lagway will play in the upcoming match against Prairie View A&M will be influenced by his practice performance this week.
In his debut with Baylor, Lagway threw for 333 yards, completing 27 of 54 passes, and recorded two touchdowns along with one interception in a close 17-16 loss to Auburn. The Bears' failure to convert a critical two-point attempt at the end of the game contributed to their defeat.
Auburn's head coach Alex Golesh praised Lagway's determination, highlighting his ability to continue competing despite the injury. Golesh remarked on Lagway's toughness, saying, "If you’ve got any question on how tough that kid is... he got banged up early, and that is a tough, tough football player."
Lagway, who joined Baylor after two seasons with the Florida Gators, was a highly regarded recruit, ranked No. 3 in his class. He initially played as a starter for Florida but entered the transfer portal after the coaching change. Last season, he ended with 2,264 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, while the Gators finished with a 4-8 record.
Tim Tebow, a former Florida quarterback, expressed that Lagway required a fresh start and would likely excel at Baylor.
