Jared Nuness, who was an assistant coach for Baylor's basketball team for over a decade, has been handed a two-year show cause penalty by the NCAA due to violations involving sports betting. His resignation from the program in December was attributed to personal health issues.
In his resignation statement, Nuness expressed gratitude for his time at Baylor, stating that being part of the program was a significant honor in his career. The NCAA's investigation found that Nuness engaged in impermissible betting activities while employed at the university, placing approximately 3,400 bets totaling around $38,000 on professional sports between December 29, 2020, and November 28, 2025.
He also permitted his son to use his betting accounts, which led to three bets totaling $170 on college competitions, none of which involved Baylor.
Nuness accepted full responsibility for these infractions, classified by the NCAA as Level II violations. The NCAA maintains strict regulations against betting by personnel to uphold the integrity of college sports. This case underscores ongoing concerns about sports betting in collegiate athletics, as Nuness is among several individuals facing penalties for similar violations.
