BJ Edwards, a former guard for the SMU Mustangs, has announced his commitment to play for the Oklahoma Sooners. This transfer comes after a three-season stint at SMU, where he had previously transferred from the University of Tennessee. His eligibility for an additional season is due to a five-for-five temporary injunction that allows another year for the 2022 recruiting class.
During his time at SMU, Edwards played under two head coaches and had his most successful season last year, participating in 28 games. He averaged 12.7 points per game, alongside 5.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists, while also earning All-Conference defensive team honors in the ACC. His performance included an impressive average of 2.4 steals per game during the 2024-2025 season.
Despite interest from SMU to keep him, Edwards opted to join head coach Porter Moser in Norman. The Sooners are looking to strengthen their roster after a 21-16 overall record last season and missing the NCAA Tournament. Edwards' addition is expected to enhance the team's competitive edge for the upcoming winter season.
