The Houston Texans have placed linebacker Henry To'oTo'o on injured reserve, a move that is expected to keep him out for months rather than only the required four games. Coach DeMeco Ryans said the injury would cost To'oTo'o significant time.
Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 and Sports Talk 790 reported Monday night that the designation was anticipated, and Houston made it official Tuesday.
Jake Hansen is in line to start beside Pro Bowl linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair. Hansen finished the opener in To'oTo'o's place, playing seven defensive snaps. Across his first five NFL seasons, he has four starts and 391 defensive snaps.
Wade Woodaz may become the third linebacker and appear in the base defense. He had 22 special teams snaps in the opener but none on defense, and he remains in a protective brace following thumb surgery during the preseason.
Seventh-round pick Aidan Fisher may be available for Week 2 after being inactive as a healthy scratch in the opener. Jamal Hill is another option and could be promoted from the practice squad. The Texans are also without E.J.
