The Houston Texans have received encouraging updates regarding wide receiver Tank Dell's recovery from a significant knee injury. General manager Nick Caserio indicated that while Dell is making strides, the team is not hurrying his return.
Currently on Reserve/Injured with a designation to return, Dell is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of four games this season due to a dislocated kneecap and multiple ligament tears he suffered in December 2024.
Caserio remarked that Dell is showing improvement in his quickness and route-running skills, although he still needs to regain the speed essential for his playing style. The Texans are prioritizing Dell's complete recovery over immediate needs at the wide receiver position, emphasizing that being “close” does not mean he is ready for game action.
Before his injury, Dell had become an integral part of the Texans' offense, recording 98 receptions for 1,376 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first two seasons. His ability to stretch the field is crucial for the team, especially as they navigate the early part of the season without him.
Other receivers, such as Boutte and Noel, will have the chance to step up and develop their chemistry with quarterback C.J. Stroud during Dell's absence. As the Texans prepare for upcoming games, the timeline for Dell's return remains uncertain, with a focus on ensuring he can regain his explosive speed.
