Baylor may turn to Nate Bennett again at quarterback when it faces Louisiana Tech in Week 3, with DJ Lagway listed as doubtful. Bennett started the Bears’ victory over Prairie View A&M and completed 26 of 34 attempts for 314 yards and three touchdowns. He added 13 rushing yards and a touchdown, but threw two interceptions.
Lagway, a junior who transferred from Florida, injured his ankle during Baylor’s season-opening defeat against Auburn. He played in that game, then was unable to participate in the Prairie View A&M matchup. Dave Aranda, Baylor’s coach, said earlier this week that Lagway took part in a Monday walkthrough and that his playing status would depend on his practice performance.
The injury is not expected to sideline Lagway for a month or more, although his availability in an emergency against Louisiana Tech has not been established. On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Baylor is hoping to have him back for next Saturday’s Big 12 opener against Colorado.
If Lagway cannot play, Bennett is expected to start, with Edward Griffin listed as QB2 and Quinn Murphy as QB3. FanSided reported the status.
