The Houston Texans have added wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to their roster following a trade with the New England Patriots. In return, the Patriots obtained Jaylen Reed along with a seventh-round draft pick scheduled for 2028.
At 24 years old, Boutte faced stiff competition for playing time after the Patriots signed AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs, alongside existing receivers DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism. Head coach Mike Vrabel noted that the trade would provide Boutte with a greater opportunity to contribute in Houston, rather than remaining sidelined in New England.
He stated, "That was one place (wide receiver) where we do have some depth, and I think for all parties involved, that was probably the best thing."
Due to a lack of special teams involvement, Boutte would have likely remained inactive without injuries to other players. Last season, he participated in 14 games, tallying 33 catches for 551 yards and achieving a career-high of six touchdowns.
Vrabel acknowledged the difficulty of trading Boutte, emphasizing his positive demeanor and development as a player, and remarked on his efforts to express gratitude towards Boutte during the process.
