Jacob Fields has been removed from the TCU football roster following a physical confrontation with a teammate in the locker room on August 13, as reported in the TCU crime and fire log. This decision comes just under two weeks before the team's season opener against North Carolina.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram described the incident as an aggravated assault. Sources indicated that Fields was involved in a conflict with an offensive player and had previously experienced hostility from teammates, including insults and threats, with some instances involving being spat on. Despite reaching out to the coaching staff multiple times regarding the rising tensions, Fields reportedly received no response.
Fields, who transferred to TCU from Louisiana Tech this offseason, was anticipated to be the starting free safety for the Horned Frogs. In 2025, he was acknowledged as the Co-Defensive Player of the Year in Conference USA, having played all 12 games for Louisiana Tech. He led the team with 92 tackles and had three interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns.
Additionally, he recorded 2.5 tackles for loss and five pass breakups last season. Further information about the incident and its consequences has not yet been disclosed.
