Tank Dell’s revised agreement with the Houston Texans could raise his total earnings to $3.645 million, according to details reported Sept. 11. The contract was completed last week before Houston’s Week 1 matchup with the Buffalo Bills.
The agreement provides $1.5 million beyond Dell’s existing $1.704 million. That earlier amount is described as including a $1.145 million salary and a $500,000 signing bonus. Dell can earn $300,000 after reaching a 30% offensive snap share, plus another $300,000 for each additional 5% through 50%. He also has an opportunity to receive $38,461 for each game he is active.
Dell remains on injured reserve with a designation that permits a return, so he will miss at least Houston’s first four games while rehabbing a 2024 knee injury involving a dislocation and multiple ligament tears. The earliest possible comeback would be the Texans’ home game against the Dallas Cowboys, but no timetable has been set. Dell must first advance to 11-on-11 practice work.
Once his practice window opens, Houston will have 21 days to activate him. Otherwise, he would go back to injured reserve for the remainder of the 2026 season. General manager Nick Caserio said Sept. 1 that Dell was getting closer but still had more work to do and needed to rebuild confidence.
Dell later attended the team’s 2026 premiere event and was described by Brian “Big Sarge” Barfield as being in good spirits and eager to return. The third-round pick from 2023 joins a receiver group also affected by injuries to Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel.
