Texas Christian University (TCU) has reinstated the media credentials for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, resolving a dispute that emerged after the newspaper reported on a locker room altercation involving former TCU safety Jacob Fields and wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma.
The incident, which occurred on August 13, resulted in Fields' dismissal from the team and his arrest for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. Ezukanma reportedly sustained serious injuries, including a brain bleed and concussion, requiring a three-day hospitalization. TCU noted that both parties had productive discussions to move forward, following initial concerns about the reporting that led to the revocation of credentials.
Athletic director Mike Buddie had expressed worries that the narrative created by the reporting could lead to threats against Fields and his family. The Star-Telegram was previously barred from covering TCU athletic events, including a season opener against North Carolina in Dublin, although a reporter attended the game without official credentials.
With the credentials restored, TCU aims to shift focus back to the football season, while the legal matters surrounding the incident remain unresolved.
