The Houston Texans have made a significant roster move by acquiring wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. Boutte announced the trade on social media prior to any official confirmation from the teams involved. In exchange for Boutte, Houston sent safety Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round draft pick for 2028 to New England.
This transaction follows an injury to Texans' wide receiver Jayden Higgins, who sustained a torn ACL during joint practices with the Las Vegas Raiders. Higgins was anticipated to play a crucial role alongside star receiver Nico Collins, having recorded 41 receptions for 525 yards and six touchdowns in his rookie season.
Kayshon Boutte, selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, had an impressive season last year, tallying 33 catches for 551 yards and six touchdowns. The Patriots had an abundance of wide receivers after acquiring A.J. Brown in June and signing Romeo Doubs to a four-year, $68 million deal in March.
In addition to Boutte, the Texans also signed veteran receivers Zay Jones and Sterling Shepard over the weekend as they seek to address the gap left by Higgins' injury. The Texans' plans for the upcoming season remain unclear.
