The Houston Texans have received encouraging news regarding offensive tackle Braden Smith, who is anticipated to be out for a few weeks because of a plantar fascia injury in his foot. This information follows an injury scare that occurred during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, as reported by KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson on August 27.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed that while Smith's injury raises concerns, it is not considered severe and should not lead to a long-term absence. ESPN's Adam Schefter also indicated that Smith might be sidelined for a few weeks, which is a preferable outcome compared to more serious injuries.

The Texans may not feel pressured to rush Smith back, especially with Trent Brown, a former Pro Bowl player, currently starting at right tackle.

Smith joined the Texans in the offseason on a two-year contract worth $20 million, with expectations of taking over the starting right tackle position. However, his injury contributes to the uncertainty surrounding the team's offensive line. The Texans are reportedly pleased with the development of Blake Fisher, who has shown promise during the preseason.

Further updates on Smith's condition and the offensive line are expected as the season progresses.
