The Houston Texans have announced that they will stop contract negotiations with quarterback C.J. Stroud once the regular season kicks off. Stroud, who was drafted second overall in 2023, has had his fifth-year option exercised, ensuring his contract with the Texans runs through 2027. At just 24 years old, he holds a career record of 28 wins and 18 losses, and he has guided the Texans to playoff appearances in his first three seasons.
He earned the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year title in 2023 and achieved a personal best completion rate of 64% in 2025, leading the team to a 12-5 record and a spot in the divisional playoffs.
Despite his successes, Stroud encountered difficulties in the postseason, notably throwing five interceptions during a 28-16 defeat to New England. Further information about the potential for future contract negotiations has not been provided.
