Cole Hutson can play for Texas this season under a temporary injunction issued by Judge Maria Cantu Hexel of Austin’s 53rd District Court, according to sports.yahoo.com, citing Chip Brown of Horns247. The order does not establish when Hutson will appear in a game.
The decision came shortly before Texas’ SEC opener against Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday, leaving Hutson’s availability uncertain. Coach Steve Sarkisian was scheduled to speak with local media Thursday and could offer an update. Hutson had been declared ineligible before Texas’ Week 2 game against Ohio State.
On Sept. 7, Sarkisian said a separate NCAA matter involving Hutson remained under consideration apart from the court ruling.
Texas has continued to get consistent play from both guard spots. Oregon State transfer Dylan Sikorski is starting at left guard, although Western Kentucky transfer Laurence Seymore had been expected to win that job during fall camp. Quarterback Arch Manning said during camp that he was surprised Hutson had returned to the team and welcomed him.
Offensive guard Brandon Baker said Hutson had been a strong presence and leader in the locker room and had performed well during camp.
