Quarterback DJ Lagway has made the decision to transfer to Baylor after experiencing a challenging season at the University of Florida. The highly regarded player, ranked No. 3 in his class, had high hopes when he joined Florida as the successor to Graham Mertz.
Following Mertz's injury during the sixth game, Lagway took over as the starter, leading the Gators to a 5-1 record in the last six games, which included wins against ranked teams.
However, Lagway's second season did not go as planned. He faced injuries and significant obstacles, including a disappointing loss to South Florida, marking Florida's first defeat to the Bulls. A particularly tough game against LSU saw him throw five interceptions, contributing to an overall disappointing record of 4-8 for the Gators, which ultimately resulted in the firing of head coach Billy Napier.
Lagway entered the Transfer Portal seeking a fresh start and has now joined Baylor, where he will play under head coach Dave Aranda. Former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow commented on Lagway's transfer, expressing that a new environment could help him thrive.
Lagway's debut with the Bears will be against Auburn, a significant matchup for both him and Coach Aranda as they aim to improve from last season's performance.
