The Allen Americans are back on the ice in Allen. The ECHL team opened training camp Sunday at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center's community rink, starting with a Red vs. White scrimmage that the club opened to fans.

The camp leads into the franchise's 18th season of professional hockey. The Americans are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Ottawa Senators, and Steve Martinson is head coach and general manager.

The week ahead

The team's posted schedule has practice at 10:45 a.m. each weekday through Friday, Oct. 9, with Monday's session listed as open to the public. All sessions through Oct. 12 are at the community rink, the club said. The team noted that times can change.

  • Saturday, Oct. 10: The only preseason game, against the Tulsa Oilers in Tulsa, 7:05 p.m. There is no home preseason game this year.
  • Monday, Oct. 12: A final 10:45 a.m. session in Allen. After that, camp moves to Frisco.

Opening weekend in Frisco

The Americans begin the regular season with two home games against the Idaho Steelheads at Comerica Center in Frisco on Thursday, Oct. 29, and Friday, Oct. 30. The Oct. 29 game is a 10:30 a.m. school-day game.

"We have a great mix of young talent along with some veteran leadership," longtime Americans player Spencer Asuchak said in the team's camp announcement, adding that he thinks this year's roster is deeper than last season's.

The Americans and the Wichita Thunder will meet 11 times this season, five of them in Allen, according to an earlier team release. Ticket information is available from the team at 972-912-1000.
