Allen is in line for $230,000 in Collin County bond money to design the next piece of Molsen Farm, the city's farm-themed park.

The award is one of eight recommended by the Collin County Parks Foundation Advisory Board and sits on the consent agenda for the Commissioners Court's regular meeting at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, at the Jack Hatchell Administration Building in McKinney.

According to the board's recommendation sheet, Allen asked for help with design work for Molsen Farm's North Room, a project with an estimated total cost of $460,000. The city requested half of that, $230,000, and the board recommended the full amount, noting it was "in favor of all items requested."

How the county money is split

Commissioners set aside $4 million for this year's round of the county's Parks and Open Space Project Funding Assistance Program, paid for with Proposition D money from the 2023 county bond election. The advisory board reviewed nine applications and recommended eight totaling $4,357,732.52; a county engineering memo says the amount above $4 million would come from savings on finished 2023 open-space projects.

Land purchases got first priority, followed by regional trail connections and other trail work, then capital improvements to open space, the memo says. Other recommended awards include $500,000 for McKinney's Wattley Park and $1,277,000 for Frisco Commons. A gazebo replacement in Parker was the only application left out.

At the farm this month

Molsen Farm is already in use for city programs. Allen's parks department has a Haunted Campout there on Saturday, Oct. 24; registration is $12 for members and $17 for non-members, according to the city's October events guide.
