Turning the Credit Union of Texas Event Center from a hockey rink into a concert floor or an esports stage takes a lot of hired hands, and the City Council is set to decide Tuesday night who supplies them for the next year.
A consent item on the 7 p.m. agenda would award Innovative Solution Advisors LLC, which does business as Stadium People, a contract for building operations and conversion labor at the city-owned arena. The agreement is capped at $295,133 a year and could renew automatically for two more one-year terms at the city's option.
Stadium People, based in Irving, already does the work. The council first approved an agreement with the company on Sept. 12, 2023, according to the staff memo. When the city's purchasing division opened proposals for the new contract on Sept. 3, it received one responsive submission.
Paid by the hour, often passed through
The memo says routine and event-based setup and changeover work is needed to run the wide range of events the arena books. The quantities in the city's bid documents were estimates used to pick a vendor, and the company will be paid at its hourly rates for the work the city actually requests.
Labor costs vary by event, according to staff. Depending on the event, they are usually reimbursed to the facility through rental payments from promoters and clients, or through the State of Texas Event Trust Fund for certain large, multi-day events. The money is in the arena's budget for fiscal 2027, the memo says.
The vote comes about 10 days before the arena hosts the Swiss Stage, quarterfinals and semifinals of the League of Legends World Championship, Oct. 23 through Nov. 8, according to the city.
