Most auto insurance cancellations in Allen's two ZIP codes this spring traced back to unpaid premiums, but a far larger share than the state average were requested by the drivers themselves, according to figures the Texas Department of Insurance added to its website this week.
TDI announced Thursday, Oct. 15, that its consumer page showing why home policies are declined, canceled or not renewed now covers personal auto insurance, too. The data comes from reports insurers must file under House Bill 2067, a 2025 state law that also requires them to give customers a written explanation. The tables are broken out by ZIP code, not by insurance company.
"By giving Texans clearer insight into why insurance decisions are made, we're empowering them to navigate their coverage with confidence," Insurance Commissioner Amanda Crawford said in the announcement.
The counts
For policies whose action took effect from April through June, insurers reported in ZIP codes 75002 and 75013:
- 4,260 cancellations (2,509 in 75002 and 1,751 in 75013)
- 181 nonrenewals
- 2,003 declined applications
ZIP code boundaries do not line up exactly with city limits.
The reasons
A second table sorts the notices insurers mailed in those three months by the reasons listed, and a notice can list more than one.
Of 4,920 cancellation notices in the two ZIP codes, 2,762, about 56%, cited failure to pay the premium on time. Another 2,086, about 42%, said the policyholder asked for the cancellation. Statewide, missed payments appeared on about 71% of cancellation notices and customer requests on about 27%.
