Green Elementary School in east Allen is in line for a top-to-bottom interior renovation estimated at $21 million, according to a project Allen ISD registered with the state.

The filing, entered Sept. 28 with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, describes a complete interior renovation of the one-story school at 1315 Comanche Drive, covering 84,400 square feet. It lists a start date of May 21, 2027, and a completion date of Aug. 30, 2027, a window that falls between the end of one school year and the start of the next.

The state agency reviews projects like this one for accessibility, and the dates and costs in its records are estimates that can change.

Dallas architecture firm Corgan is listed as the designer. The record identifies the work as publicly funded.

Part of the 2024 bond

Green is one of the campuses on Allen ISD's 2024 bond list, which voters approved through Propositions A and C. The district's bond website describes the planned work at the school as a full campus renovation with a redesign of learning spaces, mechanical upgrades and a possible switch to geothermal heating and cooling to cut utility costs.

It also calls for new carpet, wall finishes and LED lighting.

The bond page lists other improvements for the campus as well:

  • repairs or replacement of playground equipment, with shade structures added over it
  • safety and security upgrades, plus grounds, irrigation, mechanical, electrical and plumbing repairs
  • cafeteria equipment repairs and replacements
  • new buses and bus camera systems
  • student and teacher computers, network upgrades, classroom technology and a new outdoor digital marquee

The state filing covers the building renovation itself; it does not break out costs for those other items, and the district has not announced how the work will affect classes or summer programs on the campus.

The Green filing follows another Allen ISD campus registration in August, when the district filed a $1.5 million project for temporary classroom portables at Curtis Middle School, where the board approved a bond-funded renovation last December.
