Castelion, the California defense startup building the Blackbeard hypersonic weapon for the Navy, is adding a secure room to office space in Allen, according to a project registered with the state.

The filing, entered Sept. 25 with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation under the name "Castelion Corporation - Secure Room," describes installing a prefabricated secure room of about 845 square feet in Suite 100 at Allen Business Center II, 718 S. Greenville Ave. The estimated cost is $1 million, and the work is scheduled to run from Oct. 1 to Dec. 1.

The record says the project is privately paid for by the tenant. The building's owner is listed as Greentech One LP, and Dallas firm Brohard Architecture is the designer. The filing does not say how the room will be used.

A radar team in Allen

Castelion lists Allen, along with its Torrance, Calif., headquarters, on its corporate media materials. Its careers page on Wednesday showed 11 openings that include Allen as a work location, most of them in radar engineering: electrical, FPGA, embedded software and RF systems engineers, a radar algorithm engineer and test specialists.

One supply chain role and one site reliability role are also listed for Allen alongside other locations.

A fast-growing contractor

In August, Castelion announced a $1 billion Series C round, made up of $800 million in equity and a $250 million revolving credit line, with investors including JPMorganChase's Strategic Investment Group, Andreessen Horowitz and Carlyle. It said then that it had won more than $500 million in U.S. military contracts over 18 months.

On Sept. 14, Castelion announced a Navy production order worth up to $200 million for an initial lot of Blackbeard weapons, which it describes as an air-launched hypersonic strike weapon. The company said that work will be done at its manufacturing campus in Rio Rancho, N.M., and its Torrance facility.

State accessibility reviews like this one cover the building work itself; the dates and cost in the registration are estimates and can change.
