Jack Henry & Associates, the financial technology company that has operated in Allen since 1998, wants the city's help to qualify for state tax refunds on a planned equipment upgrade. The City Council takes up the request on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
The regular agenda, posted Tuesday, lists a resolution putting the company forward for Enterprise Project status in the Texas Enterprise Zone Program. The state program, run through the governor's Economic Development and Tourism office, pays approved projects in the form of sales and use tax refunds.
A designation lasts five years, and a city nomination is a required step before a company can apply, according to the staff memo.
What the company plans
Missouri-based Jack Henry sells core processing systems and related software to midsize financial companies, including software for online banking, payment processing, loans, and fraud and risk management. It now has 688 employees in Allen, the memo says, split between an office at 1021 Central Expressway and a data center the company runs at 816 Allen Commerce Parkway.
The data center grew out of the office. Its equipment once sat inside the Central Expressway building and was moved to its own site as the company needed more space, power and cooling. The two sites still work as one operation, the memo says: staff in the office, and the round-the-clock systems that run clients' banking and payment services at the data center.
Over five years, from Dec. 1, 2026, to Dec. 1, 2031, the company is weighing at least $5 million in machinery and equipment for the Allen campus, mostly servers, data storage and network gear, plus the racks and cabling to install them. City staff say the project would help keep 490 full-time jobs and create 10 more.
