Library replaces municipal court as Allen's in-town vote center for Nov. 3

Construction of the new police headquarters has squeezed parking at City Hall, so voting shifts to Allen Public Library's meeting rooms; early voting runs Oct. 19 to 30.

Allen voters who are used to casting ballots at the municipal court building on the City Hall campus will need a different destination this fall.

For the Nov. 3 election, Allen Public Library at 300 N. Allen Drive will serve as an early voting and Election Day vote center, the city announced. The municipal court facility will not be used for either early voting or Election Day.

The reason is parking. The city said space at City Hall is limited while the new Allen Police Headquarters is under construction, and the library has more on-site spaces than the old location.

Finding the polls at the library

Voting will take place in Library Meeting Rooms A and B, on the east side of the building near the auditorium. Parking is available on the east and north sides of the library, with a small amount of street parking along the south side.

If those fill up, the city points voters to overflow parking at The Edge, 201 E. St. Mary Drive, and asks them not to park at neighboring businesses or in private lots.

The Allen ISD Service Center, 1451 N. Watters Road, will also be a vote center during early voting and on Election Day. Collin County runs its elections with vote centers, which means a registered county voter may use any of its locations, not only those in Allen.

When to vote

Early voting opens Monday, Oct. 19, and ends Friday, Oct. 30. The first five weekdays have the shortest window, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Hours stretch to 12 hours, 7 a.m. through 7 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 24, and again for the whole second week, Oct. 26 through 30. The lone Sunday, Oct. 25, runs 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, with voting from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Collin County Elections administers the election and posts sample ballots, the full list of vote centers and current wait times on its website.
