Mexican Bar Company plans family-focused second restaurant at Sloan Corners, aiming for December

The Willow Bend restaurant's owner says the Allen location at 800 Shelby Drive will add a kids' play area, a 1,700-square-foot covered patio over a park and a 12-seat private room by a pond.

Mexican Bar Company, a restaurant that has operated at The Shops at Willow Bend in Plano since 2018, is building a second location in Allen, owner Brian Dunne told CultureMap Dallas this week.

The new restaurant will be at 800 Shelby Drive in Sloan Corners, the Billingsley Company's mixed-use development at State Highway 121 and U.S. 75. Construction is underway, and Dunne said the goal is to open by December.

A different feel

Dunne said the Allen menu will look much like Plano's, with nightly chef's specials added, but the restaurant will lean toward families. Plans he described include a play area off the main dining room, a 1,700-square-foot patio with a retractable roof and roll-down sides overlooking a 2-acre park, and twice the private dining space of the Plano location.

One of those rooms, a 220-square-foot space Dunne calls the Miami Cabana, seats 12 and has bi-fold doors that open onto a pond.

According to Dunne, the move came at the invitation of Lucy Billingsley, a partner in the Billingsley Company and a regular at the Plano restaurant. "It's been a long time in the works," he told CultureMap. Dunne said he lives about seven minutes from the site.

The Plano original

The Plano menu was created by chef Patricio Sandoval and centers on house-made tortillas and dishes cooked over a wood and coal grill, including ceviches, guacamole, street tacos priced from $17.50 to $19.50 for three, and entrees from $23 enchiladas to a $54 ribeye, CultureMap reported.

CultureMap described the Plano restaurant as one of the few businesses staying open as Willow Bend is redeveloped into a mixed-use district planned around a new arena for the Dallas Stars. The mall closed in August.

Dunne also co-owns Centro on the Square in downtown McKinney, which opened in 2025.
