Republican state Rep. Candy Noble trailed Democrat Angie Carraway by 1,392 votes in House District 89 after election night, putting one of the two Texas House seats that divide Allen on track to change hands if the unofficial count holds.

Carraway had 44,156 votes (50.80%) to Noble's 42,764 (49.20%) in Collin County's unofficial returns, which list all 90 county vote centers as reported in a report time-stamped 1:02 a.m. Wednesday. District 89 sits entirely in Collin County and does not show up in Denton County's returns. Noble holds the seat now, according to the Texas House website.

The vote was close across every method of voting. Mail ballots split evenly at 751 apiece. Carraway built her edge in early voting, 36,681 to 34,170, and Noble won the Election Day vote, 7,843 to 6,724, but not by enough to catch up.

Allen's other seat

Allen's other main district, House District 67, was closer still. Republican Rep. Jeff Leach, the incumbent, finished 203 votes ahead of Democrat Jordan Wheatley, 50.12% to 49.88%.

A small part of the city, about 5% of its residents, is in House District 70, where Democratic Rep. Mihaela Elizabeth Plesa won with 58.32% over Republican George Flint.

How the city divides

Using 2020 census counts, the Texas Legislative Council places about 45% of Allen's population in District 89 and about 49% in District 67. Beyond Allen, District 89 includes most of Wylie and parts of Princeton and Plano.

None of the night's numbers are final. Collin County's elections office says results stay unofficial until the political subdivision holding the election canvasses them.

In the race for Congress, Allen lies entirely in the 3rd District, where the Associated Press called the race for Republican U.S. Rep. Keith Self.
