Allen's new police headquarters on Century Parkway is 76% complete and still on schedule and within its $97.1 million budget, the city said in an update posted this week.

The three-story, 101,000-square-foot building is going up next to City Hall and the post office. According to the city, crews have hit every major milestone on time or early since construction started in February 2025, and substantial completion is now projected for March 2027. Police operations would then move in phases, with the project wrapping up in spring 2027.

What council bought

At its Oct. 13 meeting, the City Council approved three purchases totaling about $2.6 million to outfit the building:

  • about $1.87 million in furniture, including desks, meeting-room pieces and emergency dispatch workstations
  • as much as $500,000 in networking gear, such as switches and wireless equipment
  • $252,973 in fitness equipment, including machines and weights

The city said it is buying those items straight from vendors, using competitive proposals and cooperative purchasing contracts, instead of running them through the general contractor, to avoid the contractor's markup. All three were part of the original budget and do not raise the project total, the update said.

Voters approved the headquarters in the 2023 bond election. Plans call for expanded workspaces, a detention area, an emergency dispatch center, fitness rooms and a larger meeting room that the community can use, all under one roof.

Art for the building

Next up is public art. The city's Artist Selection Panel meets at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, in the Parks and Recreation conference room at 301 Century Parkway to review artist submissions for a public art project at the new headquarters, according to the posted agenda. The agenda does not list the artists, a budget for the piece or a timeline for a decision.
