Allen police officers will spend Tuesday evening, Oct. 6, going from cookout to cul-de-sac as the city takes part in National Night Out, the yearly event that pairs neighborhood get-togethers with visits from local law enforcement.

The Allen Police Department has published the list of communities that have registered so far, and it runs to 33 entries, from single-family subdivisions to several apartment and townhome complexes. Officers and other emergency personnel plan to stop by registered gatherings during the evening, according to the department.

Not on the list?

The department says there is still time for a block that wants to join. Organizers can register through the police website at AllenPolice.org/NNO. The online form asks for the subdivision name, an organizer's name, phone number and email, the address of the gathering and the time it will take place, which helps officers plan their route.

How a neighborhood celebrates is up to the hosts. The department's National Night Out page describes the range nationally as block parties, cookouts, parades and safety demonstrations, and Allen's announcement invites both longtime participants and first-time hosts.

Questions can go to the Allen Police Department, 205 W. McDermott Drive, at 214-509-4200.
