Eighty employers have signed on so far for a free career fair aimed at veterans that comes to the Marriott Dallas Allen Hotel & Convention Center on Thursday, Nov. 19.

The event, part of the statewide Hiring Red, White & You! program, runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 777 Watters Creek Blvd. Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas is putting it on with the Texas Workforce Commission and the Texas Veterans Commission. Veterans, service members and military spouses are the focus, but the fair is open to anyone looking for work.

Allen is one of two fairs the regional workforce board has scheduled this year. The other is Nov. 12 at the Cleburne Conference Center.

Who is hiring

An employer directory on the Workforce Solutions website lists the 80 companies and agencies with 349 job titles among them. Where employers gave a head count, the openings add up to more than 2,300.

Public employers make up a large share of the list.

They include the cities of Frisco, McKinney, Richardson and Denton, Plano's 9-1-1 center, Collin County government, Collin College, the University of Texas at Dallas, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the North Texas Municipal Water District, the North Texas Tollway Authority, the Dallas County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Allen ISD's Kids Club program lists 15 assistant openings at $16.85 an hour.

By the directory's industry labels, 19 employers fall under other services, 10 under manufacturing, eight each under finance and health care, and seven under public administration.

Before you go

Job seekers can fill out a registration form linked from the Workforce Solutions event page. The directory can be searched by employer, industry or county, and many listings show education requirements and pay.

The Texas Workforce Commission says Hiring Red, White & You! has run since 2012 and, across all its events, has drawn more than 28,900 employers and 167,800 job seekers and produced more than 4,100 same-day hires.
