The corner had already done its first job when Kaick’s delivery found Joaquín Valiente on the right side of the six-yard box. Valiente’s first touch with his left foot did the rest, sending the ball into the bottom-right corner in the 75th minute and pulling FC Dallas level with Colorado.
That equalizer began a 3-1 Decision Day victory at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, and Kaick supplied the finish that made the comeback real 13 minutes later. His right-footed goal from the center of the box, assisted by Nolan Norris in the 88th minute, put Dallas ahead 2-1. Santiago Moreno added the third in second-half stoppage time, finishing from Logan Farrington’s cross after a fast break.
The scoreboard gave Dallas a comfortable ending. Valiente’s role within it was more interesting. His third goal of 2026 arrived from a player whose regular value comes through the pass before the shot, the touch that sends someone else into danger and the delivery that turns an ordinary attack into a chance.
Valiente’s regular season included 13 assists and a club-leading 49 key passes. He also finished with 16 goal contributions, second on Dallas. Those numbers make the goal feel like an expansion of his game-day influence rather than a new job description. Dallas needed his finish against Colorado, but it has relied on his imagination all year.
There was plenty of creation before the breakthrough, even if the first half refused to reward it. Dallas produced 27 shots and 10 on target in the match, while Colorado managed six shots and one on target. The opening 45 minutes ended scoreless despite Dallas generating repeated opportunities, including Valiente’s blocked effort from the left side of the six-yard box in the 36th minute.
Nicolas Hansen, Colorado’s goalkeeper, was a major reason the Rapids remained alive. His seven saves included stops on Petar Musa, Kaick, Bernard Kamungo and Osaze Urhoghide. He also denied Musa in the 21st minute and Kamungo in first-half stoppage time.
The volume favored Dallas, but shot totals do not guarantee clean chances, and Hansen repeatedly made sure the home side had to keep working for the finish.
Colorado struck first anyway. Morgan Whittaker scored in the 47th minute from Georgi Minoungou’s cross after a fast break, turning Dallas’ first-half pressure into an uncomfortable chase. The Rapids’ six shots were hardly a flood, yet one direct attack was enough to expose the cost of leaving a match undecided after producing the larger share of the attempts.
Valiente’s response came from a set-piece continuation, with Kaick’s cross arriving after a corner rather than from a breakaway. That detail matters because Dallas did not suddenly solve every problem by running into open space. It found an equalizer through a player who had spent the evening helping construct chances and a teammate who could deliver the ball into a dangerous pocket.
Kaick then changed the shape of the night himself. His goal was his fifth of the season and his third assist came on Valiente’s equalizer, giving him a two-part contribution before Norris supplied the pass for the winner.
Norris had entered in the 57th minute after Sebastien Ibeagha left because of an injury, and his assist was a later attacking contribution from a substitute brought into the match under changing circumstances. Kaick also tied Christian Cappis for the team appearance lead with 33.
