The North Central Texas Council of Governments Regional Police Academy, located in Allen, has introduced Motorola Solutions V700 body cameras to its training program for new law enforcement officers. The academy, which serves agencies across 16 counties in North Central Texas and trains roughly 250 recruits each year, began using the devices in January 2026.
Christy Martinez, the academy director, stated that the equipment provides an objective record of interactions, which she described as a vital component for fostering transparency and community trust in modern policing. By requiring recruits to wear the cameras during exercises, the academy aims to help future officers become accustomed to the technology they will encounter on duty while enhancing their professionalism.
Prior to this integration, training relied heavily on instructor observations and recruit recollections of high-pressure scenarios. Post-scenario debriefs required significant time for teachers to review events with each team individually. The new video footage allows instructors to conduct these reviews more rapidly and efficiently.
Martinez noted that the streamlined process translates into better insights and feedback for students. This efficiency has allowed the academy to reduce classroom time and increase the number of hands-on, scenario-based exercises available to recruits. The additional practice focuses on repetition and discussion of best practices.
The technology is intended to sharpen recruit skills in communication, decision-making, and de-escalation during realistic simulations. The academy continues to prepare its next generation of officers through a combination of classroom instruction, practical exercises, and immersive training scenarios.
